Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have a bookmarklet?

Yes, we do! You can find more information about it here.

Do you provide stats for shortened URLs?

Yes, we do! In order to see stats for any shortened URL simply add a + to the end of the shortened URL.
For example, if your short URL was "http://bt.gd/1F" then stats would be located at "http://bt.gd/1F+"

Do you have any desktop applications or widgets?

Yes, we do! In fact, we have applications for both Windows and Mac OS X. You can download the applications
from here.

Do you have a way to preview shortened URLs?

Yes, we do! In order to see a preview of where the shortened URL will take you simply add a +ex to the end
of the shortened URL. For example, if the short URL was "http://bt.gd/1F" then to preview the URL you would
type "http://bt.gd/1F+ex"

In the preview window for any link there is an option to preview all bt.gd links. This option tells bt.gd to
to automatically add +ex to any clicked bt.gd links.

Do links ever get deleted?

bt.gd keeps all links that have been created indefinitely unless they are found in violation of our Terms of Service.

How long are bt.gd links?

The length of links generated bt.gd is dependant apon on the number of links that have already been created.
bt.gd currently uses 64 different characters when generating links. This gives us up to 68,719,476,736 (68 Billion)
combinations before any bt.gd links exceeds more than 19 characters long. 13 of which is the "http://bt.gd/" prefix alone.

Why do some preview screenshots have blank areas on them?

bt.gd tries as hard as it can to get a perfect screenshot for every link that we host. Unfortunately, some websites use plugins
such as Flash Player or Java that our preview system ignores. It does this to save us resources in the long run by not requiring us
to overload our servers to process them.

Why was my link replaced by a "Page Not Found" page?

bt.gd prefers to keep the content of the links that we host clean. Our system regularly checks recently created
links against the www.mywot.com and www.surbl.org blacklists in order to ensure that the links we are hosting do
not link to malware or other Terms of Service violations such as spam. If a link is found to be blacklisted by any
of these services, then bt.gd replaces that link to protect users who click it.

bt.gd also checks links to ensure that they point to a website that exists in order to cut down on phony links. Any
links that do not respond properly to our request is replaced with the "Page Not Found" page as well.

Why is Facebook login sometimes slow?

Unfortunately, Facebook is a very complex and highly used website. It is one of the largest social networks on the
Internet. As a result they sometime can be slow to respond when processing login requests from bt.gd. bt.gd does
cache login information for Facebook users such as their first name and profile url to not rely on Facebook on every
page load, but this does not help us make logins any faster.
